In , in London, the arrogant and skeptical Florence Cathcart is famous for exposing hoaxes and helping the police to arrest con artists.

The stranger Robert Mallory tells her that the headmaster of a boarding school in Rookford had invited her to travel to Cumbria to investigate a ghost that is frightening the pupils to death.

Florence is ready to leave the boarding school when strange things happen, leaving Florence scared. I can't believe I almost didn't see this movie based on the lower rating and negative reviews.

What a shame that would have been! There are always plenty of long reviews, so I won't bore you with mine. This movie was absolutely wonderful.

It has some drama, suspenseful music and scenes from start to finish, and even a bit of romance but not nearly enough to make this a romantic or "chick" movie.

Each of the chosen actors were perfect for their part and they portrayed assigned characters beautifully. They were very likable and believable.

I'm not going to compare this movie with any other, but if you're like me and love movies such as The Sixth Sense, Shutter Island, Inception, Dream House, etc I promise you will love this movie as well.

You also, like me, may decide to immediately watch it the 2nd time to see if there are any clues you missed preparing you for the last 15 minutes of movie.

Out of over movies in my collection, only 32 have a 10 star rating. This movie comes VERY close to that category. Definitely a must see!

From metacritic. The book starts with a quick introduction of Breen Kelly, 26 years old, insecure, introverted , reluctant teacher who hates the guts of her job, barely making her ends meet, drowning into her debts, hard worker, shopping from thrift shops, wearing grey colors, laying low to be invisible because her own mother made her believe she was not capable to achieve something extraordinary: she is under average.

So Breen tells her sweet pie, supportive, BFF Marco what she discovered and offers him to go to a journey with her to find her father and learn about her ancestors in Ireland.

Marco the bestie, so much likable friend accepts her offer. A magical universe with werewolves, elves, Magicks, powerful talismans, dragons and the one of the most charismatic leader, warrior Keegan!

Will she fight or will she escape to the world where she came from? The story is great introduction to give enough about the characters and their pasts, motives.

The story finishes with a cliffhanger as we expected! So much special thanks to NetGalley and St. View all 5 comments.

This is my first Nora Roberts book. I know. I couldn't believe I have never read anything else by her either. And I really enjoyed this first book of her new fantasy series.

Roberts is a very seasoned writer, and it totally shows in her way of storytelling. I love the pacing of The Awakening. It is really consistent and nothing felt rushed or dragging.

One minor issue I had was the paragraph breaking during conversations. On some occasions, I had trouble figuring out who was talking.

But that did This is my first Nora Roberts book. But that did not interfere much with the wonderful story. Just one more day before the rest of [Breen's] life began.

The Awakening is a low fantasy with the Chosen One trope. Breen is an extremely relatable American woman in Philadelphia. She struggles to pay off student loans, works in a job she hated, and has never been anything but barely average.

Or so her mother says. Upon discovering her mother's attempt of hiding great things from her, she quits her job and spends a summer in Ireland, trying to locate her father who has disappeared from her life.

Though I love all the queer folks in Breen's life, I find them falling a little on the "stereotypical gay men" side of the spectrum. But Marco and Sally are the best people.

I love how they are always there for Breen, even before she has broken free of her mother and herself. On top of being rather stereotypical, most characters, queer or otherwise, are not distinctive enough to establish individuality in my mind.

I hope the sequels will give them more personality. For those wanting this book for the romance, it is not the main plot.

And though it is clear whom Breen gets involved with, I find the actual relationship development a bit surprising and it did not work particularly well for me.

I did not feel much attraction or emotional connection, but it is still very important to the series, and I hope to see it evolve.

What I love the most about The Awakening is the serenity of the narration, the calmness of the surroundings, and the peacefulness as Breen begins to hone more confidence than she has ever had.

I also love the message of not letting anyone reprimand you, and all the wonderful words dedicated to acceptance, belonging, and becoming one's true self.

The Awakening is an exciting read as we embark on Breen's journey of finding herself. It ends on a cliffhanger, but not a note too nervous.

I honestly laughed at the ending and cannot wait to read more about her adventure. I received an e-ARC from St.

What a great trilogy this is going to be! Full review coming soon. Jun 16, Deborah Morgan rated it it was amazing Shelves: fantasy.

Nora Roberts just continues to amaze and this novel is the same. Similar to her last trilogy, it is fantasy, but one I had no trouble believing in.

Jun 19, Irene rated it really liked it. The Awakening by Nora Roberts. Solid start to a new otherworldly series.

The descriptive landscapes in Ireland are series unto themselves. And no one can describe the Irish brogue like Ms.

A capable and likely heroine, Breen, and the promise of more magic to come not to mention dragons, elves and werewolves.

Another winning series for Ms. Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.

Jun 28, Melanie rated it it was amazing. What a great start to a new series by Nora Roberts! The Dragon Heart Legacy is definitely going to be a hit!

I am just bummed that we have to wait so long for the next book in this series because this left us off in a serious cliffhanger! Kudos to Ms.

Roberts though for making us all want to get the next book in the series!! Breen Kelly is a young woman that has been stuck in a job that she is not fond of.

She is a teacher and feels like her mom forced her to be in that profession because she mad What a great start to a new series by Nora Roberts!

She is a teacher and feels like her mom forced her to be in that profession because she made her feel like that was the only thing she would be good at.

Her mom always talked down to her and made her feel like she wasn't worth anything. Her father left them when Breen was 12 and told her he would be back, but he never did come back.

Breen has always wondered why he left and why he has never tried to contact her since then. When Breen is watching her mothers place for her to go away on a luxurious trip, things take a drastic turn in her life.

When Breen is opening the windows like her mom has instructed, the cat somehow makes it to where some files fly around out of the filing cabinet.

What Breen finds when she is cleaning up is shocking to her. Breen can hardly believe what she is seeing.

There is a bank account in her name with almost 4 million dollars in it. Her mom's name is on the account as well so she knows that she has something to do with it.

When Breen calls the bank, she is told that the money is indeed hers and that her mom has told her broker that she was not ready to make decisions on the money and that is why she has handled the money for Breen.

Brenn's father has been the one sending the money since he left. She had no idea about any of it! Needless to say her mom has a lot of explaining to do when she gets back.

The day Breen's mom is to return she takes off work and meets her mom at her house. Her mom knows that this is odd because Breen never misses work.

She is always trying to make ends meet with her student loans, rent and utilities. Breen has always been one to shop at thrift stores for her clothes just to save money.

Well, with her 4 million dollars, she is not going to have to worry about any of that. Breen confronts her mom and they have words.

Breen finally has the backbone to stand up to her condescending mom. Breen has decided that she is going to quit her teaching job since she never was really fond of it anyway and go to Ireland to find her dad.

Breen enlists her best friend and room mate, Marco to go to Ireland with her for a couple of weeks. She doesn't want to make the trip alone.

When Marco's time is up in Ireland and it is time for Breen to start finding her dad, things begin to make sense and surprise Breen all at the same time.

When Breen finds a portal that takes her to a whole other world, things start to get very interesting in the book. I don't want to give much more away because you will get lost in the book at this point and just keep turning the pages as fast as you can.

This is such a great read! I can not wait for the next book in this series! I am just disappointed that we are going to have to wait so long!!

I voluntarily read and reviewed this book and all opinions are my own. Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for an advanced copy of this book.

Jun 22, Handcrafted Librarian rated it liked it. I wish Goodreads allowed half star ratings, because I would definitely put this one at a 3.

I'll admit that I wanted to read this one for two reasons: 1 I do like Nora Roberts trilogies and 2 it is titled the Dragon Heart Legacy I have been impressed with recent offerings from Nora Roberts.

Historically, she seemed to have a formula repetitively used for her romance trilogies. It was along the lines of 3 or 4 family members each getting story and at the end of it all, someone I wish Goodreads allowed half star ratings, because I would definitely put this one at a 3.

But in the past few years, there have been new, of the times, settings that have diverse characters and experiences that reflect current times.

Still tied into some of her normal themes of magic, Fey, Ireland, etc. Meaning that our main character, Breen, steps through a door into a different dimension where magic is common, dragons, shifters, Fey, and more types of people live side by side in an agrarian society that is being preyed upon by another evil dimension and it's ruler.

This novel was so entertaining and uplifting. I loved Breen's adopted family in the States and their major roll in Breen's life and appearance in the novel even if it was set a lot in Ireland as well.

Way to tie everything together! Jun 17, Erica rated it really liked it Shelves: fantasy , fiction , romance. Martin's Press in exchange for an honest review.

Since she was a child, Breen Kelly has been told she was less than average. As an adult she keeps herself closed off, reluctant to shine, and never expecting anything more out of life.

Working a job she hates to pay of her sizeable student loans, she dreams of a different life. Breen hopes this trip will help her discover who she is, learn more about her heritage, and discover why her father left and never returned.

What she finds is a portal to another world filled with magic, dragons, and a power that will determine her destiny.

The Awakening is an exciting new fantasy trilogy by Nora Roberts. After reading the Chronicles of the One trilogy; I was very excited to jump into another one of her Ireland based magical fantasies.

This one definitely has a slower start as we learn about Breen's upbringing with her controlling mother and then her attempt to embrace a new and more courageous version of herself in Ireland.

Once she discovers the realm of Talamh the story really picks up. We get to meet the diverse community of Talamh including, Keegan, the sexy and brooding leader and protector of the Fey.

I really enjoyed the characters and world building of Talamh and hope that we will see more of them in the next two novels. The book leaves off with a very pivotal ending promising an exciting start for book two.

Jun 25, Terri Tutor rated it it was amazing. What a wonderful way to start a new series! She stops putting a brown rinse to dull her red hair, goes on her first overseas trip with her best friend, Marco to Ireland, the land of her father.

Once there, she feels an immediate connection. After Marco returns home, she really finds her What a wonderful way to start a new series!

After Marco returns home, she really finds her connections. The memories and her hidden skills are starting to appear which help her overcome her sense of just barely being adequate.

When meeting Keegan, she feels his disdain with her.

The Awekening

I have to admit after reading this book I prayed the borders will open soon because this book gives you addictive craving to schedule an urgent trip to Ireland and get lost in its folkloric, ancient historical , magical places.

Those tempting forests, the supernatural creatures and mystical elements perfectly summon your soul and you just die to be part of those incredibly breathtaking and life changing adventures.

Well, with her 4 million dollars, she is not going to have to worry about any of that. Breen confronts her mom and they have words.

She realizes:. There was no one thing in the world that she desired. There was no human being whom she wanted near her except Robert; and she even realized that the day would come when he, too, and the thought of him would melt out of her existence, leaving her alone.

Shortly thereafter, Edna returns to Grand Isle. Determined not to let anyone—including her children—possess her, Edna swims away from the shore.

After a while, her limbs tire. Exhaustion overtakes her, and she drowns among the waves, finally and totally free.

The Awakening has been described as a case study of 19th-century feminism. One of the central themes in the novel is that of self-ownership.

Also called bodily autonomy , self-ownership was a key tenet of 19th-century feminism. So-called first-wave feminists argued that women could gain their freedom only by refusing to allow other people—namely, men—to exercise control over their bodies.

The heroine of The Awakening longs for this kind of bodily autonomy. She is relentless in the pursuit of authority over her own person.

Her response to Robert clearly borrows from the rhetoric of first-wave feminists:. You have been a very, very foolish boy, wasting your time dreaming of impossible things when you speak of Mr.

Pontellier setting me free! I am no longer one of Mr. I give myself where I choose. The sea is perhaps the most important symbol in the novel.

It variously represents baptism, cleansing, and rebirth. In The Awakening , Chopin constructs the sea as a space of freedom—a space outside and away from patriarchal society.

For Edna the sea serves as a source of empowerment and a place of refuge. The voice of the sea is seductive; never ceasing, whispering, clamoring, murmuring, inviting the soul to wander for a spell in abysses of solitude; to lose itself in mazes of inward contemplation.

The voice of the sea speaks to the soul. In learning to swim, Edna conquers her fears and takes control of her body.

She effectively realizes her independence:. A feeling of exultation overtook her, as if some power of significant import had been given her to control the working of her body and her soul.

She grew daring and reckless, overestimating her strength. She wanted to swim far out, where no woman had swum before.

In the water, Edna is reminded of the vastness of the universe and of her position within it. As she contemplates her significance or lack thereof , her thoughts turn to death.

Weeks later, when Edna reflects on the experience, she recalls the freedom she felt in the Gulf. With Robert gone and her solitude made plain, she resolves to return to the womb of the sea.

Don't forget that your choices will make an impact on the story as new updates come out. The Awakening is a game of fiction, not related to the real world at all.

All characters in the game are of at least 18 years of age. New version 0. I will add it later on game jolt. New version out now!

I reworked the game from the ground up. It plays differently but has the same story and characters you are familiar with.

I hope you will enjoy the changes I made, the story does not exactly continue where we left off but very close. Hey, it's been a while.

I made a demo for the next update. I will upload the demo here too, so you can try it for yourself. The new updates improve the game exponentially.

The character models look great, love the voice over, and love the new fairy! I can't wait to see all the updates to come!

Great game!
